Marijuana in America

Marijuana has been in use on planet earth since 2700 B.C. according to Chinese manuscript.  Marijuana has been in used by Americans for several hundred years and was first recognized here in 1545 years.  It was considered such a useful crop by the Jamestown settlers that in 1607 they began cultivating it.  From the 17th to the mid 20th century, marijuana was considered a household drug suitable for the treatment of headaches, menstrual cramps, and toothaches.  Prior to 1910, the growth and trade of marijuana and hashish was fairly limited. Following the conclusion of the Mexican Revolution, trafficking of the drug became more prevalent making growth and transport of the drug easier and profitable. The marijuana business expanded to reach the ports of New Orleans where it was sold on the black market along side other strains of the plant.  From 1913 to approximately 1938 a variety of marijuana known as Cannabis Americana was cultivated by American drug companies for use in their drug products.

With this in mind, why is it that in 1914, the Mormon Church was allowed to take such an active role in marijuana legislation.  What ever happened to the separation of church and state?  And why do otherwise law-abiding Americans have to obey silly rules originated and pressed into law by a religious institution. Is this the Inquisition or witch hunts instituted by another well known religious institution, the Catholic Church?

We are all responsible enough to make out own decisions on whether to smoke or not to smoke a drug that the government has claimed for years, will drive us insane.  By this point in time we should all take a careful look at history including the propaganda efforts like Reefer Madness and others and stop being dictated to by the few staunch right wingers that have never tasted a good joint but will drink themselves silly.  It is time for the rules to change when the few are so openly allowed to dictate to the many.  It is very reminiscent of prohibition, the Nazi Party and Apartheid.  When do we say enough is enough and light a big one?
